Brett Hetherington (Australia, 1968) studied Political Science and History at the Australian National University and also went on to receive a Graduate Diploma of Education from the University of Canberra in 1996. He was a regular columnist for Japan’s monthly magazine Kansai Scene over two years and later wrote commentary and editorials for the news site OnlyMelbourne.com.au. His most recent non-fiction work has appeared in Spain’s Catalonia Today and the Barcelona Metropolitan magazine. He has also worked as a speechwriter and researcher for a government backbencher in Australia, specialising in education and social policies. As a secondary school teacher who has taught for over a decade in four different countries, Brett Hetherington has had a long history of close involvement with children from a very wide variety of backgrounds, and he has drawn from this for many parts of his book, “The Re-Made Parent” (awaiting publication.) Along with his partner Paula, he became a foster parent to a homeless teenager and a biological father to a son named Hugo, born in Kyoto, Japan in 2001. He moved with his family to live in Catalonia, northern Spain in 2006.
