Alejandro Aris was born in Barcelona in 1943 and since the tender age of eight wanted to be a surgeon. He graduated from the Medical School of Barcelona in 1966. The following year he travelled to the USA where he lived for seven years and where specialized in Thoracic and cardiovascular surgery. Upon his return he began work in the Santa Creu and Santa Pau Hospital of Barcelona of which he is now director-in charge of Cardio Service Surgery and where he has practiced for his entire professional career. He has written more than 150 articles on his specialty, and various chapters in books on issues related to cardiac surgery. He has published “Cardiac Surgery Trivia” (edited in the USA), “Take one before bed”, (Planeta, 1998), a compendium of medical anecdotes; and “Medicine in Painting” (Lunwerg Editors, 2002) and art book on medical-related themes. “The Anatomist’s Paintings” is his first fiction novel.
