He holds a degree in education. His literary vocation soon turned to poetry. Books of poems, such as Códice de la melancolía (Codex of Melancholy), 1989, Los pájaros del frío, (Birds from the Cold), 2000, or El vuelo de la bruma (The Flight of Fog), 2005, are some of his known titles. The collection of poetic-prose by the title of La esquina del mundo, (The Corner of the World), 2012, constitutes a frontier genre between poetry, reflection, aphorism and memory. He has been awarded important prizes such as the Rafael Alberti, the Premio José Hierro, or the Premio Andalucía de la Crítica. Among his most recent novels stand out El libro de las aguas, (The Book of Waters), 2007, which was made into a film; the trilogy on the disappearance of the rural world: El viento derruido (The Wrecked Wind), 2004; Los años de la niebla, (The Years of Mist), 2005 and El óxido del cielo (The Sky’s Rust), 2009. As well as Los ojos de Natalie Wood (Natalie Wood’s Eyes), 2012, and Los álamos de Cristo (Christ’s Poplars), 2014. His most recent books of poetry are, La tumba del arco iris, (The Rainbow’s Tomb), 2013, and Los ángulos del cielo (The Sky’s Angles), 2014.
