Norberto José Olivar was born in Maracaibo in 1964. He holds a degree in History and PhD in Political Science. He is a university professor. He has published “The Warriors” (Secretaría de Cultura, 1999), “The Mysterious Case of Agustín Baralt” (Fundación LMM, 2000), “The Man from Atlantis” (Comala, 2003), “The City and the Heretics” (UNICA, 2004), “The Black Preserves” (Rojo y Negro, 2004), “To Die is a Party” (Rojo y Negreo, 2005), “The Ghost with the Head of Hair” (Rojo y Negro, 2006), “Monsieur Ismael” in the anthology “The Secret Voices”. “The New Venezuelan Short Story” (Alfaguara, 2006), “A Pirates Story” (Rojo y Negro, 2007), “A Vampire in Maracaibo (Alfaguara, Premio de la Critica a la novela 2008, and Premio Municipal de Novela (2010), “Exquisite Corpse” (Alfaguara, 2010, runner up to the Premio Rómulo Gallegos 2011). Also in 2011, he received the VI Premio Internacional de Relato de Radio Exterior de España with “I hate Iguanas”, included in the anthology “The Man who Laughs at Everything” (Ediciones Irreverentes, España, 2011). Moreover, he received a Special Mention in the 66 Concurso Annual de Cuentos de El Nacional for “Natural History of Failure” and published “The Black Prince. Notes from a Werewolf” with the editorial Lugar Común/Relectura. In 2012, he was the runner up of the Premio Internacional de cuentos Juan Rulfo with”The Man of the Six Spirits”. In 2013 he publishes “The Dust of the Dead” with Alfaguara and “The Ghost with the Head of Hair” (Alfaguara, 2015, Loqueleo, 2016).
