Synopsis: A woman who spent her entire life in the privileged milieu of the court, retells her memories ever since her being a child she listened to her father, a high-ranking official, speak about the king. The friendship that blossomed between her and Alfonso XIII resulted in a contained passion which took many years to transgress the boundaries of the prevailing moral. The novel reflects the weakest and more human side of Alfonso XIII, presents us with a Queen Victoria Eugenia different from that which we are accustomed and a lover who stands out above all others; three characters tangled in a labyrinth of mixed feelings when the monarchy was in danger.
