ALBERTO CALIANI was born in Ceuta, in the days of black-and-white television, although he has lived in Madrid since 2021. He debuted in 2013 with The Secret of Boca Verde, an adventure thriller that became the number-one bestseller on Amazon Spain. In 2015, he published The Conspiracy of the Dead King, a historical novel inspired by the legend of King Sebastian of Portugal, followed in 2017 by The Church, a supernatural noir thriller.

In 2021, Ediciones B published The Emperor’s Fist, which received two HISLIBRIS Awards for Best Historical Novel and Best Spanish Author of the year. Two years later came The Impostor’s Shadow, set in a Renaissance world filled with violence, conspiracies, and secret wars. Some of its characters later returned in They Always Come at Night (2024), a dark and oppressive thriller set around the Monasterio de Piedra.

In 2024, together with Juan Gómez-Jurado, he co-wrote the script for Red Queen: Origin, The First Case, the audio-fiction prequel to the bestselling Red Queen universe, released exclusively on Audible. In 2025, he published the contemporary thriller The Book Hunter, once again with Ediciones B.

Now, in 2026, the master of suspense returns with Bad People, a story of loyalties sealed in blood, betrayals that destroy unbreakable bonds, and ruthless killers.
