Carlos Ruiz Zafón (Barcelona, 1964 – Los Angeles, 2020) is one of the most prominent writers in contemporary international literature and the most widely read Spanish author worldwide. His works have been translated into more than fifty languages. He made his debut in 1993 with The Prince of Mist, which, along with The Midnight Palace (1994) and The Watcher in the Shadows (1995), forms The Mist Trilogy. In 1999, Marina was published. In 2001, The Shadow of the Wind was released, the first installment of The Cemetery of Forgotten Books tetralogy, which also includes The Angel’s Game (2008), The Prisoner of Heaven (2011), and The Labyrinth of the Spirits (2016), a narrative universe that has become one of the major milestones in contemporary storytelling across five continents. In 2020, The City of Steam was published, compiling all of his short stories.
