Juan José Rodríguez was born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, in 1970. He studied Communication Sciences at the School of Social Sciences of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa. He currently works as a Cultural Promoter at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa and serves on the editorial board of several Mexican magazines, in addition to working as an independent journalist.
He is the author of the short story collection Con sabor a limonero (1988), and the novels El náufrago del mar amarillo (1991), Asesinato en una lavandería china (1996), El gran invento del siglo XX (1997), and Mi nombre es Casablanca (2003).
He has received the National Poetry Prize Ignacio Manuel Altamirano (1989), the State Chronicle Prize (1997), and the National Short Story Prize Gilberto Owen (2002).
