This fascinating feminist science fiction novel has been awarded the I Premio Pinto y Maragota for sexual and gender diversity, organized by the City Council of Pontevedra y Generales.
The jury highlighted “its exceptional literary quality and revolutionary reflection regarding the construction of sex and gender, of identities and sexual orientations, as well as a profound feminist and environmental vision regarding the planet's future.”
Luz inhabits the present in a world that is divided between Corners and Capitals, the latter only accessible through the so-called “fertility lottery”. Winning implies an unknown access to opulence. In a future marked by the cataclysm known as the Great Disconnection, three beings created from vegetable matter, but with a human form, are captured by a slave ship and taken to an unknown continent. Here they will discover how their bodies are classified as women, codified and sold, in order to maintain the dominant power structures.
