Falsas ventanas

Falsas ventanas

Year: 2011.
Editorial: Alfaguara.

A working class neighborhood witnesses with impotence as a factory that formed an important part of their lives is closed down and demolished generating anxiety over uncertainty of what is to come in its stead. The narrator of False Windows is an old copy editor who lives with his wife and feels, like the rest, that something disquieting is about to occur. Because what occurs is not only what can be seen; a group of neighbors upset over rumors of a modern construction in place of the factory. What eventually happens transcends throughout the neighborhood and prevents the people involved from perceiving their own ghosts, their phobias and their obsessions, from noticing signs of madness, all that is missing is to strike the match –a factory’s demolition– to manifest themselves in their own authentic monstrosity.
