Bipa does not believe in fairy tales. She is not interested in what might lie beyond the Caves where her people live. But when her friend Aer, fascinated by the legend of the mythical Empress, goes on a journey towards certain death, Bipa goes to look for him, risking her own life in a world of ice bathed by the light of the blue star, pursuing something that may be no more than a pipe dream. Does the Ethereal Kingdom really exist? Is there something more than the comfortable safety of the Caves? Or is there merely cold, death and darkness?
