La mujer de Roma
In a large London house a painting is discovered which apparently dates back to the 17th century and is identical to “Venus at her Mirror” by Velázquez. Turner, an antique dealer, hires Martin to find out everything he can regarding the canvas: is it an original or a fake? Does it come from a heist? What is the scheme behind that enigmatic painting? The investigation takes Martin from the Palacio Real of Madrid to the Vatican’s archives, and from London’s National Gallery to the labyrinth built in the gardens of Villa Médicis, in Rome. In his quest, Martin discovers a parallelism between his reality and that which the artist lived at the time of painting the canvas, while he traces Velazquez’s steps and delves into the secrets of his life. An enigmatic woman, a world of intrigues and betrayals, love and indifference all come together in a moving novel that moves at a frantic pace.
