Zamora, 1682. Don Fernando de Zuñiga, doctor in medicine at the University of Salamanca, answers the bishop’s call, Monsignor Balmaseda, who entrusts him to unravel the mysterious providence of the carving of the crucified Christ, found under strange circumstances, and which seems to be related to the tragic death of a blacksmith. Doctor Zuñiga soon discovers that that event hides a plot of terrible crimes, whose investigation will take him on a journey across the university town of Salamanca, the court of Madrid, and a Seville that was once an opulent city and is now agonizing like the crucifixes that appear in its streets during the period of processions.
