La venta del paraíso
This is a coral novel, a novel about the immigrants that arrive to Spain from Latin-America in the hope of finding the 'Paradise'. The story focuses on four anonymous characters that come from the imaginary country called Calamarí (a metaphor of any South American country that the author often uses in his novels) who will have to assume the reality of having been cheated, and will have to front their tumultuous past as well as the life in a hostile city. At the same time, the novel depicts our contemporary society, and portrays it as a society devoid of horizons and values. Thus, the novel becomes not a mere sequence of biographies but a poetical work about contemporary history that rebels against those who pretend to ignore what immigration carries with it.
