Throughout their overwhelming, deoppilative coexistence, a married couple manages to rid themselves of everything that throughout decades both binds and separates them. Nicolas Lobato and Jacqueline Cascorro are far from being compared to Paolo and Francesca, Abelard and Heloise, Romeo and Juliet or any other famous couple of lovers; they are, in everything and all, their opposites: a pair of castaways, insignificant unfortunate protagonists of our time. Sergio Pitol resorts to the bolero's sweet sentimentalism and to the macabre cruelty that permeates a good portion of his country's humor, combining those elements in his own, unbridled and romantic vision of fiction's reality.

“Married Life” is a story that closes a circle—a triptych its author calls it—which includes “Love Parade” and “Taming the Divine Heron”.
