The criminologists Vicente Garrido and Nieves Abarca are the most celebrated literary tandem of present-day noir fiction, and the books whose main character is Valentina Negro, a lovely and violent inspector, have a real strong flowing.

The story—that takes its name from a Bram Stoker quote—starts with the brutal murder aboard the Black Train, in which several writers are headed to a famous crime fiction gathering. This crime is followed by others, always full of symbolism. Inspector Negro and her inseparable companion, the criminologist Javier Sanjuán, have to figure out who is the enigmatic writers’ assassin.  Meanwhile, a dangerous rapist of adolescents, caught in the past by Valentina, has escaped from jail, further complicating matters.
