Zoilo and Elisa watch their native Cartagena move away from the deck of the liner that will deliver them to a new and uncertain life in Mexico. Driven by the violence of the anarchist revolts in Spain, the wealthy couple are forced to flee before the workers rise up against them and their mining properties.

However, shortly after the ship sails, Zoilo disappears under mysterious circumstances, leaving Elisa alone at a time when a woman’s only recourse to survive alone in an unknown destination is her strength.
