Fantasy as self-expression joins human reality through the narrating voice of Onix, a black cloth doll, who uses her association of things to narrate, in first person, her entire story. Her story begins from the moment of her confection by an artisanal seamstress until she was sold in a toyshop, which is run by a miserly and unsociable owner. During Onix’s stay at the toyshop, she sahred many adventures with the other toys, especially with a plastic doll named Perla (Pearl). The luck of these two inseparable friends changes for good on a rainy day when they are taken very far away from the toyshop, to land in the hands of their “adopted mothers”: Lorenza and Azucena.

In various short chapters, the two dolls and their owners will mesh their stories to show readers ages eight and up, that friendship transcends the boundaries of skin color, social prejudices, as well as distance and time.
