Ramfis's Curse

Ramfis's Curse

Novel
Author: Ramírez, Sergio.
Year: 2026.
Editorial: Alfaguara.

Inspector Morales and Doña Sofía flee Nicaragua for Costa Rica, hoping to start over in a small fishing village where they find work at a boutique hotel specializing in LGBTQ+ weddings.

Their peaceful new life is short-lived. One night, an old cruise ship arrives from Nicaraguan waters. The vessel once belonged to Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo and, shortly after docking, Morales and Doña Sofía discover that one of the passengers has been murdered during an extravagant birthday celebration. The victim is someone they both know far too well, and any of the guests could be the killer.

As Morales investigates the case, the shadow of an old curse connected to Ramfis —Trujillo’s son— seems to haunt the ship. Decades earlier, he sailed across the Caribbean carrying his father’s assassinated body alongside boxes filled with money stolen from the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic.
