This novel begins a mere two years earlier, in 1936, when the war separates two young people in love. He, like most prisoners, is locked up for political reasons; she, on the other hand, must remain in the village, witness to a war that grows and grows all around her. While she does everything possible to see him again, a secret kept for too long comes to light and he will decide to listen carefully to the dangerous rumors that run through the corridors of San Cristobal. It is then that the countdown begins for a frantic escape that leaves only two possibilities for the future: freedom or the crystal graveyard.
